Week 6

Message Notes

Look Back

In what way did you put your faith into action?

Look Up

Read Psalm 37:3

  1. What 2 things does the author encourage his readers to do at the beginning of verse 3? How are these 2 actions related to each other?
  2. What does the author say will be the result if we follow the advice he gives in this verse? How easy is it for you to accept and apply in your life?

Read Psalm 37:4

  1. What do you think it means to “take delight in the Lord”? What does this look like in a person’s life today?
  2. What does the author say will be the result if we follow the advice he gives in this verse? How easy is it for you to see God as the source of all your heart’s desires?
  3. How has God given you, or shaped your heart’s desires? How did you respond to this?

Read Psalm 37:5

  1. What 2 things does the author encourage his readers to do in this verse? How is this different from the advice in verse 3?
  2. How does what you love to do (your heart’s desires) compare with what you are committed to do right now? What would it take for you to commit your plans to God and trust Him?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

In what ways are you maximizing what you love for the benefit of God's mission?

Notes

Too often we limit ourselves by thinking that we need to follow a specific set of rules and steps to show our love for God. This passage offers a different approach that is based on our willingness to trust and commit our plans to God. In response, God promises to protect us and use us to reach others if we simply allow Him to use the things we love to share His love with others. How can you use what you love to do to share the love of Jesus?
