What are Salty mission trips?

Salty mission trips are an opportunity for individuals to serve on a 12-member team in several international locations, living out the Salty core value of “Mission Over Me.” These trips are a means of cultivating deeper faith by serving communities outside of our own, in humility, patience, and compassion.

Who can participate in a mission trip?

Salty mission trips are open to all willing to follow the leadership of Salty and the partnerships we serve, whether you’re a new or mature believer or someone looking for a unique opportunity to experience community and service in a fresh way. Though all ages are encouraged to participate on Salty Mission trips, children under the age of 17 are to travel with a parent or legal guardian.

Do I need previous missions experience to go?

It is not necessary to have previous mission experience, or international travel to participate in a Salty mission Trip; however, it is mandatory that each participant has a valid US passport.

How do I sign up for a mission trip?

To apply for participation in any Salty Church Mission trip, the Salty Mission application is to be completed via the link here. Once the application is completed, the Missions Director will reach out to discuss further details regarding the trip, and inquire more of the participant. Once confirmation to participate is made, submission of a $300 deposit is required.

How much does a mission trip typically cost?

The average cost is around $1,200, though the cost of a mission trip varies, depending on season, airfare, mission, project, etc. This amount includes airfare, lodging, transportation, project s implies, background check, guide/translator, and clean water supply. An additional $450 is to be brought by the participant for food and excursion.

Are fundraising opportunities available?

Fundraising opportunities are left up to the individual or team leader. Fundraising has included, but is not limited to, car washes, bake sales, yardwork, GoFundMe pages, art sales, Costa Rican coffee bean sales, fundraising dinners, etc. We do ask that no sales take place on Salty Church property during service hours.

What kind of work will we be doing on the trip?

The mission project for each team varies as the need of the international church requires. Often the projects include light construction, beach cleanup, English language instruction, educating on sustainable living, assistance in church service, church planting efforts, soccer field maintenance, and a variety of community outreach, etc. As needed, mission trips are sent for storm cleanup, and disaster relief.

Will there be training or preparation before the trip?

Each team gathers for three meetings before departure. The first focuses on team introductions, cultural prep, and trip logistics. The second builds team unity through local serving opportunities and hands-on outreach. The final meeting covers last details like packing, supplies, and travel coordination—so everyone feels ready to go.

How can I support missions if I’m not able to go on a trip?

For individuals who have a heart for travel, yet are unable to travel themselves, we ask that you would commit to pray for a team during the duration of the trip, or help in collecting/purchasing supplies needed for a mission trip. You could also consider hosting the team for one of their 3 preparation meetings — all of which are a great to be connected with the mission project, the team, and the ministry they are serving abroad.
