Week 2

Message Notes

Look Back

What did you do differently to battle your “giants” this week?

Look Up

Read Acts 6:1-7

  1. What key events led to Stephen being chosen to serve? What was Stephen’s “job” and why was he chosen to do it?

Read Acts 6:8-14

  1. What else do these verses say that Stephen did as he was serving those in need? Have you ever witnessed great things being accomplished through small acts of service?
  2. Try to summarize Stephen’s story in one sentence – what parts of his story are most significant and meaningful to you personally?

Read John 4:1-12

  1. What key events led to the woman’s encounter with Jesus? What do you think she expected when she met Jesus and how did His response surprise her?

Read John 4:13-30

  1. What did Jesus do that caused the woman to ask him if he was a prophet? What do you think convinced her that Jesus was the “Christ?” What did it take, or would it take, to convince you of this?
  2. Try to summarize the woman’s story in one sentence – what parts of her story are most significant and meaningful to you personally?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

Reflect on your story – how has where you’ve been led you to where you are now? How will you share your story with others this week?

Notes

Stephen and the woman have very different stories, backgrounds and outcomes. However, they both teach us about God, his purpose and desire to have a personal relationship with each of us. God does not focus on our past accomplishments or failures. He simply wants our attention and willingness to serve and share our story. Who will you share this with?
