Week 4

Message Notes

Look Back

What did you learn about the impact of your story intersecting with others?

Look Up

Read John 5:1-9

  1. Why was the man at the pool, and what was he looking for there? What kind of help or assistance did he think he needed?
  2. Why do you think the man had faith in the healing powers of the pool? Have you ever put your faith in something that never materialized? What happened?
  3. What do you find interesting or confusing about the way Jesus approached the situation? What does this tell you about Jesus?

Read John 5:16-25

  1. What does Jesus say is true of the “Father” in these verses? Which of these truths is most meaningful to you right now?
  2. What does Jesus say is true of the “Son” in these verses? Which of these claims is the hardest for you to understand and accept? Why?
  3. What do these verses tell you about the relationship between God and Jesus? Why do you think Jesus shared this with the Jews but not the man He healed at the pool?
  4. Try to put verse 24 into your own words. How does this apply to you personally, and what impact does this have on how you live your life each day?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

Do you want to get well? Where are you looking for help, and what role does Jesus play in your plan for recovery?

Notes

People search for ways to get well, escape difficult situations, and overcome limitations and addictions. Unfortunately, most of the “solutions” have no lasting effect and often result in even greater challenges. Jesus publicly demonstrated his power to heal physical infirmities and promises us even greater things. We simply need to pay attention and believe in Him.
