Serve

Serving is a vital part of our faith journey. It’s a way to make a difference in the lives of others and be a part of something bigger than ourselves.

Get Connected
“Don’t worry about what it is you’re going to do. Pick anything because nothing is too small or too inconsequential to do. It all adds up. It all fits together to make everything work. Without all those little pieces, the whole thing doesn’t come together the way it needs to.”

What does it mean to serve at Salty?

Salty People Serve is one of our core values at Salty Church. We've found that volunteering on a team is an incredible way to serve Jesus, grow in faith, and connect with others who serve or attend.

Why does Salty encourage people to serve?

Being part of a community is fantastic for growing in your faith and living it out with others through serving is a means of relational connection, personal growth, and spiritual awareness.

What serving opportunities are available?

There are several opportunies to serve at Salty, including with our Guest Services teams, SaltyKids teams, Salty Students teams, Worship teams, Prayer teams, and more! Connecting with your campus pastor is a great way to explore opportunities that may be a good fit for you.

How do I sign up to start serving?

If you’re interested in serving, please fill out our Connection Card at salty.org/connect and mark your interest in serving. Your campus’ pastor or ministry leader will reach out with next steps!

How often do volunteers typically serve?

How often you serve is up to you and the needs of the ministry in which you’re serving! Most volunteers serve a few times a month, while others serve once a month. We will work with ou to find a rhythm that fits your availability.

Can I serve at a campus different from the one I attend?

It is possible to serve at a campus other than the one you regularly attend. It can be a fantastic way to meet individuals outside of the service you attend.

Are there opportunities to serve during the week or only on Sundays?

There are opportunities to serve throughout the week, depending on the campus. Our Ormond campus has a Monday night service, but several other ministries meet throughout the week that need volunteers, too, like Salty Students, Women at Salty, Salty Young Adults, etc. On occasion, we also have special events and celebrations that require volunteer assistance.

What if I’m not sure where I want to serve yet?

If you’re not sure where you’d like to serve, we are here to help! Our team would love to have a conversation with you to explore your interests and talents, or we can also set up a time for you to shadow various service areas.

Is training provided for volunteers?

Yes! Depending on where you serve, that team leader will have resources available to you for training. Some ministries have you shadow another volunteer and other ministries have digital resources for you to explore at your convenience. Whatever the service area, our leaders are here to help you every step of the way!

Can couples or friends serve together?

Absolutely! We will do our best to schedule friends and couples together. Just let us know you’re interested in that.

What serving opportunities are available for students or young adults?

There are a variety of options for those looking to serve in Salty Students or Salty Young Adults at their weekly or monthly gatherings, including guest services, worship, group leaders, etc. If you have questions about Salty Students, you can reach out to Trey at trey@salty.org and if you’re interested in Salty Young Adults, you can reach out to Brad at brad@salty.org.

Can I serve if I’m new to church or still exploring faith?

Here at Salty, we have found that many new believers choose to serve as a means of learning more about serving Christ, and to learn from others what it means to have a servant heart. It is important to know that we serve so that those attending may have a welcoming and safe environment to experience the love of Jesus.

Are there background checks for certain serving roles?

Yes. Background checks are done for all service areas involving children, those on the safety/security teams, and in leadership positions.

Can I serve at special events or outreach opportunities?

Yes! From parades and festivals to beach cleanups and special events, there are a variety of ways to serve outside of a weekend service. We will typically announce those special service opportunities through salty.org/events or a leader will reach out to serve teams via email inviting them to volunteer.

What is the time commitment for serving?

This can vary depending on the service area and team. The leader of your service area or ministry will help provide clarity on this.

How do I change or pause my serving role if my schedule changes?

Most of our service areas involve using a planning software called Planning Center Online. This system allows you to accept or deny volunteer invites for specific dates and times. You can also add blockout dates is you’re going out of town or need to take a break. No matter what, you can always talk to your serve team leader about changes to your availability or interests.

Who do I contact if I have questions about serving?

You can reach out to your campus pastor or office@salty.org with any questions about serving. We will point you in the right direction!
