What is baptism?

Baptism is a public declaration of faith in Jesus. It symbolizes a person’s old life being buried and a new life beginning in Christ. Going under the water represents dying to the old life, and coming out of the water represents being raised to new life with Jesus. It’s an outward expression of an inward decision to follow Him.

Who can be baptized?

Anyone who has made the personal decision to trust and follow Jesus can be baptized. Baptism follows faith. It is a step taken by someone who has chosen to place their trust in Christ.

Where do you do your baptisms?

At Salty, we usually do our baptisms at the beach in the ocean, but baptisms can take place anywhere there is water.

Do I need to be baptized to be Christian?

Baptism does not make someone a Christian. Faith in Jesus does. However, baptism is an important step of obedience that Jesus invites His followers to take. It’s a way to publicly identify with Him and the new life He gives.

How long do I have to attend church before I can be baptized?

You don’t need to attend church for a certain amount of time. If you have decided to follow Jesus and understand the meaning of baptism, you are ready to take that step.

I was baptized as a baby. Should I get baptized again?

Many people were baptized as infants as a meaningful decision made by their family. A believer’s baptism, however, is a personal decision made when someone chooses to follow Jesus themselves. For that reason, many people choose to be baptized again as a way to publicly declare their own faith.

Can my child be baptized?

Yes! f your child understands who Jesus is and has personally decided to follow Him, they can be baptized. We encourage parents to talk with their child about what baptism means so it becomes a meaningful step in their faith journey.

How old do I need to be to be baptized?

There isn’t a specific age requirement. The important factor is understanding what baptism means and personally choosing to follow Jesus.

What happens after I get baptized?

Baptism is just the beginning of your journey. Afterward, we encourage you to continue growing in your faith through community, learning the Bible, prayer, and serving others.

Who can I talk to if I have questions about baptism?

Our team would love to help. If you have questions or would like to talk more about baptism, you can reach out to one of the pastors or ministry leaders at your campus and we will gladly walk through it with you. You can also reach out to office@salty.org and we’ll point you in the right direction.
