Notes
Using freedom to become a servant is a radical concept, but this is exactly what Jesus did for us. These verses remind us that our natural response to freedom is to focus on ourselves and our natural desires. However, Paul challenges us to take a different approach that was modeled by Jesus, who gave up everything for us. Serving others is not based on our skills or abilities, but on our attitude. To truly serve others we need to move out of our comfort zone, take an interest in others and come to see them as being more important than our personal interests and desires. This does not happen immediately, but occurs over time when we are obedient and willing to follow the example given by Christ.
