Week 7

Message Notes

Look Back

Who did you invite into your life this week? What happened?

Look Up

Read John 4:4-9 and Luke 19:5

  1. What is the first thing Jesus said to the woman in verse 7? Based on this and Luke 19:5, how does Jesus sometimes “introduce” himself to someone new?
  2. What was the woman’s initial response to Jesus? What does this say about how people often react to Jesus? How should followers of Jesus apply this understanding today?

Read John 4:10-18

  1. What do we learn about this woman from her comments and questions in John 4:11-12? Based on these verses, how open and receptive was she to Jesus? What had Jesus done to prompt her questions and interest?
  2. How is the woman’s attitude and openness to Jesus different in verse 15? What happened to prompt this change? How can followers of Jesus today create the same level of interest in people they meet?

Read John 4:27-30 and Colossians 4:3-6

  1. What did the woman do and say after her interaction with Jesus? Why did she do thi, and how does this apply to people today?
  2. Paul was an apprentice of Jesus and was committed to developing others as apprentices of Jesus. What specific instruction does he give to followers of Jesus in Colossians 4:3-6? How does this reflect what Jesus did when He met the woman at the well?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

This week, practice sharing your story in a simple and brief way. Look for opportunities to share your story with someone new.

Notes

But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect – 1 Peter 3:15
