Week 5

Message Notes

Look Back

How did you approach God with a spirit of humility and confession in your prayers this week?

Look Up

Read Ephesians 3:14-21

  1. What do verses 14-17 tell us about the relationship between the Father, the Spirit, and Jesus? How does this knowledge help someone “become like” Jesus?
  2. What do verses 17 & 18 say is the result of Christ “dwelling” or making His home in a person’s heart? How have you experienced this in your life?
  3. Why does the author, Paul, say that the love of Christ “surpasses knowledge”? What point is he trying to make, and how does this apply to the journey of becoming like Christ?

Read Galatians 5:22-25 and John 14:26

  1. What role does the Holy Spirit play according to Galatians 5:22-25? How is this similar to and/or different from what Jesus says about the Holy Spirit in John 14:26?
  2. What specifically does Paul say that people who are becoming like Jesus need to do in verse 24? Why is this necessary for someone to become like Jesus?
  3. How easy is it for you to follow the Spirit's leading in every part of your life? What things help you assess your spiritual condition and health as a follower of Jesus?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

What is one area of your life that needs restoration? How will you exchange some time to “be” with Jesus or “become” like Jesus?

Notes

Three goals of an apprentice of Jesus: ➢ To be with Jesus (rest) ➢ To become like Jesus (reset) ➢ To do like Jesus (rescue)
