Week 3

Message Notes

Look Back

What did you do to follow Jesus more closely this week?

Look Up

Read Luke 11:1-4

  1. How often do you pray this way, and when you do, do you pray this prayer word for word, or thought for thought?
  2. Why did Jesus start by talking about God in heaven and God’s kingdom on earth? Why is it important for followers of Jesus to start prayers this way?
  3. Why does Jesus conclude by mentioning forgiveness, temptation and deliverance? What does this say about people and our dependence on God?

Read Luke 11:5-8

  1. What do these verses say about the way followers of Jesus should pray and what we should do when we do not get an immediate answer to our prayers?
  2. How easy is it for you to pray “boldly”? What helps or hinders you from doing this?

Read Luke 11:9-13

  1. What do these verses say about how God answers prayers? What does verse 13 say is the “good gift” God gives to those who ask? Why is this important to remember this when we are looking for an answer from God?
  2. Describe a time when you felt bold in approaching Jesus? What did you ask for and what was the result?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

What is one bold prayer you would bring before God today?

Notes

Boldness is the courage to step out of our comfort zone, take risks, and pursue convictions despite uncertainty or adversity. God’s blessings and answers are available for people who earnestly seek Him, and God always answers by giving us what we NEED. As followers of Jesus, we must be comfortable with boldly asking God for the things we think we need and trust that God will answer with what we truly need. When was the last time you asked God for something that seemed completely impossible and trusted Him to answer according to His will?
