Week 1

Message Notes

Look Back

What did you do to serve someone you struggle to love this week?

Look Up

Read Isaiah 43:1-3

  1. How does God describe himself in Isaiah 43:1? What important points is God trying to make about himself and how easy is it for you to accept these truths about God?
  2. What reasons does God give for not being afraid? Which of these is most meaningful to you and how do these promises from God affect your fear?
  3. How does “I have called you by name” impact you today? What does this say about God’s plan and His relationship with you?

Read 2 Samuel 22:1-4

  1. What did David praise God for? What images does he use to describe God and which of these is most meaningful to you?
  2. What was David’s relationship with God? How does this compare to your relationship with God right now?

Read Luke 8:1-2

  1. How was Mary’s situation different from David's? Which situation is easier for you to identify with right now?
  2. How did David and Mary show their appreciation for God’s deliverance? How do you show your appreciation by proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God to others?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

Where are you turning for “deliverance” from your current situation? Will you commit to looking to God for rescue and sharing your story with others?

Notes

God calls to people “before” we are aware of our brokenness and need for help. He sees our resistance and rebellion and reaches out to us personally before He begins His transformative work in our lives. God does not turn away from our sinfulness, and our bad choices do not derail His plans. He is our creator and made each of us for more than we have experienced or accomplished so far. He delivers from difficulties, tenderly cares and heals us to prepare us to share His goodness and love with others. What role has Christ delivered you for?
