Look Up

Read Proverbs 6:16-19 and Proverbs 3:29-32

  1. Which of the things listed in Proverbs 6:16-19 do you personally hate? What makes this detestable to you? Why is it detestable to God?
  2. What additional insight into what god “hates” is found in Proverbs 3:29-32? How does verse 32 help or challenge your understanding of God?

Read Proverbs 1:28-31 and Amos 5:10-12

  1. What do these verses say are some of the things that the people “hated” and did? What motivated them and what was the impact on others?
  2. What do these verses say about God and how He responds when people do the things He “hates”? How easy is this for you to accept and explain to someone else?

Read Proverbs 1:32-33 and Amos 5:14-15

  1. What practical advice is given in these verses? What specifically do the authors say people must do and how easy is this for you to apply personally?
  2. What role does God play in the solution? How can people today respond to this?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

In what ways are you being led by culture more than truth? How can seeking the wisdom found in Proverbs help you understand and live by the truth?

Notes

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. John 3:16-19
