Describe a time when you were caught by surprise. Something someone else did for or to you (birthday party, sudden change of heart, etc.)?
Look Up
Read Matthew 24:36-41
- How does reading verse 36 make you feel? Why do you think that Jesus was so adamant about this? What does this show us about God?
- What do you recall about Noah’s story? How should we then apply this reference back to Noah today?
- What was Jesus trying to communicate in verses 40 and 41? What does this teach us about God’s power and plan?
- How should these 5 verses influence what it means to walk with Jesus in our world today?
Read Matthew 24:42-51
- What do you think Jesus was getting at by saying “ keep watch” ? What does that look like for us to do?
- What do you think is the reason that the Son of Man will come at an unexpected time? What's the purpose of God keeping things like this a secret? What does this tell us about people and God?
- How do verses 45-51 compare to verses 40-41? How are they different and where do they parallel?
- What does it mean for you?
Overall (Discovery Bible Study)
- What do these scriptures say about God?
- What do they say about people?
- How will I apply this to my life?
Look Ahead
How confident are you in your relationship with Jesus? It's ok for us to really take stock in that question. If you are confident, WHO are you sharing this Hope with? If we know the end is coming, urgency for those who do not know Jesus should come with it. What step will you take with your ONE to share Jesus?
Notes
Who is Jesus to you, may be the most important question anyone can answer. We can all agree that time as we know will come to end. We know there will be a finish to the race we run. We may not know when but we know it is in fact coming. This urgency should spring in all of us a sense of urgency for those who are separated from God’s love. We are surrounded by people who do not know Jesus and this message is the single most important message to be told. It's our job, and even more so our joy to share this with the world. If you know Jesus, awesome… Who are you going to share Jesus with? Leadership tip Groups are a great place to spur one another on. This week would be a prime opportunity to do so. Preaching Jesus doesn't mean getting a bull horn and standing on a street corner. It's as simple as an intentional conversation with someone you are currently connected with. Hold your group accountable to doing this this week as well as invite them in to do the same for you. Share what happened next week.
