Week 9

Message Notes

Look Back

This week, in what ways were you able to focus on the “why” behind some of the “religious” things you did? What things did you change to focus on God rather than the approval of others?

Look Up

Read Matthew 28:19-20

  1. Who do you think Jesus is speaking to in these verses?
  2. Jesus gives instruction in verse 19 and backs it up in verse 20 with “I am with you always, even to the end of age.” Why do you think he adds this sentence to his instruction? What does this say about Jesus?
  3. In today’s time, what do you think it looks like to “go and make disciples”?
  4. Is there a time in your life when you’ve pursued “making disciples”? Share a story if you have one.

Read Acts 1:8 and Isaiah 6:8

  1. What does it mean to “receive the power of the Holy Spirit”?
  2. What does it mean to be a “witness”? In your life, how have you been a “witness” for God?
  3. Earlier this year, we adopted a theme called “I’ll Go.” If you’re familiar with this mission, what does “I’ll Go” mean to you? Can you sum it up for others who may not know what it is, and can you describe what it looks like in your personal life?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

Robbie used the sport of surfing as an illustration of using what you love to reach others for Jesus. What passions do you have that you could use to connect others with Jesus? Who is your “one” that you could share that passion with?

Notes

We all have an assignment. The question is, are we willing to “go”? Whether it's through our hobbies, our jobs, our social gatherings, or our homes, we’re all well suited to reach someone. And as we “go” reach someone, the goal is to point people to Jesus, to Heaven, rather than just to church. Church is the tool, not the goal. This week, think about how you could use what you love to reach others for Jesus. And if you haven’t already, ask yourself, what does it look like to say “I’ll Go”?
