Week 12

Message Notes

Look Back

What did you do to try to make it right with someone you may have been wrongly judging?

Look Up

Read Matthew 7:7-11 and 6:33-34

  1. Why do you think Jesus repeatedly urges His followers to “keep on” asking and seeking? What does this say about people, and how does it apply to you personally right now?
  2. Why did Jesus mention “parents” and “sinful people” after urging His listeners to keep on asking and seeking? What does this say about God and people?
  3. Why do you think Jesus specifically says that God will give “good gifts” to those who ask? What does this say about how God answers prayers?
  4. How does Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 6:33-34 relate to what He teaches in Matthew 7:7-11? What is the relationship between worry and persistent prayer, and how has this impacted the way you approach God?

Read Luke 18:1-8

  1. How is this passage similar to and different from His teaching in Matthew 6 and 7?
  2. How does this passage help you better understand why Jesus urges His followers to persistently seek God and how God answers prayers?
  3. What things stop people from persistently seeking God for answers and solutions to their problems and challenges? Which of these is the biggest challenge for you?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

Are you actively and persistently seeking God for answers and solutions to things that trouble you? If not, what can you do differently to begin?

Notes

Jesus repeatedly urges His followers to seek God first and ask God for the things we need and desire. While we rarely receive answers and solutions immediately, Jesus promises that God is listening and will provide “good” gifts to those who ask Him. The truth is that these gifts are permanent and eternal and much more than we can ask for or imagine.
