Look Back
What steps did you take to evaluate and change your environment in order to bear more and healthier fruit?
Look Up
Read Matthew 26:36-42 and John 12:23-28
- How does Jesus describe how he was feeling in Matt 26:38? Have you ever felt this way?
- What did Jesus do before he prayed to the Father? Why do you think He did these things?
- What was Jesus’ “whatever” request of the Father? Why do you think He asked for this?
- The account of Jesus’ prediction of His death in John 12 occurred about a week before His prayer in the garden. How is Jesus' attitude similar or different from the Matthew account?
- What does Jesus tell His disciples in the John passage that may have helped Him submit to the Father’s will later? How can you apply this in your prayers?
Read John 14:12-14 and Luke 18:1-8
- What do these verses have in common?
- According to the Luke passage, what should a person do to demonstrate “faith”? How is this different from how “faith” is commonly defined in the world today?
- What aspects of these 4 passages encourage or challenge you? How can you apply this in your daily life?
Overall (Discovery Bible Study)
- What do these scriptures say about God?
- What do they say about people?
- How will I apply this to my life?
Look Ahead
What do you need to help you always pray and never give up? Reflect on what God has provided and the promises of hope He makes throughout the Bible as you continue to pray your “whatever” prayers.
Notes
The Bible tells us that Jesus was troubled by the path He was being asked to take. History tells us that He suffered a brutal and painful death. However, He set an example of obedience and hope by focusing on the promise of a better future. He calls those who follow Him to do the same, and remain faithful when faced with difficulties and troubles. Small groups need to be a place where people can share their anguish and be supported by those who can support and help them through the dark times of life
