Week 1

Message Notes

Look Back

What did you do this week to become more full of truth and grace and show this to others in your life?

Look Up

Read John 14:10-17

  1. What do you think Jesus was talking about in verse 12? What kinds of “greater things” do you think He had in mind? Who was going to do these “greater things” and why?
  2. What do these verses say are some of the results of believing in Jesus? What specifically is Jesus asking us to believe? How hard or easy is this for you?
  3. Try to put verses 14-16 in your own words. Why do you think Jesus talks about love, obedience and the value of a counselor right after promising to do whatever we ask? What impact should this have on our prayers?
  4. Does Jesus’ teaching in these verses apply to you personally? Is it within God’s nature to invite you to partner with him in ways that are much bigger than you feel capable of?

Read John 15:5-8 and Ephesians 3:14-21

  1. What important concepts do these verses have in common? What makes them significant or important to you personally?
  2. What are some of the things Paul prayed for in the passage from Ephesians? Why do you think he prayed for these specific things? Have you ever prayed like this?
  3. If you regularly applied these scriptures to your prayer life, how would things change?
  4. Do you think God is ever surprised or overwhelmed by our impossible prayers? Are you naturally inclined to pray impossible prayers? Why or why not?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

This week make a conscious effort to focus on your prayers and ask yourself What am I really asking for and am I willing to pray impossible prayers? When is the best time mentally and physically for me to pray? Where will I pray in order to avoid distraction and disruptions? How long will you pray - am I willing to listen for God to answer my prayers?

Notes

Prayer takes effort and dedication and can be developed over time. Take time to evaluate what and how you pray, and take the next step in asking for bigger things, Wait and watch as God provides immeasurably more
