Look Back
In what ways are you starting to show faith by using what God has already given you as seeds towards fulfilling your impossible “whatever” prayers?
Look Up
Read Matthew 17:14-20 and Mark 11:20-25
- How easy is it for you to understand these passages and accept that Jesus told His disciples that nothing would be impossible for them?
- How did Jesus respond to the man’s request to heal his son? What does Matthew 11:17-18 say about how Jesus views and responds to our lack of faith? How can you apply this in your life today?
- Who did Jesus say they needed to have faith in Mark 11:22? Why is this significant, and what are some of the other things people tend to put their faith in?
- What else does Jesus say that we need to have or do to move mountains in the Mark passage? Do you find it easy or difficult to do these things?
Read Luke 17:5-11 and Mark 10:42-45
- What was Jesus’ response in Luke to the apostles’ request of him to “increase our faith”? What specifically do verses 7-10 say that a person needs to do in order to increase their faith?
- How do you typically react when someone tells you “all you need is a little faith”? What might you do differently if you applied Jesus’ teaching from the Luke passage?
- What does the Mark passage have in common with Luke? Have you ever thought that serving others would increase your faith or result in great things?
- What are you currently doing to increase your faith? What can you do differently?
Overall (Discovery Bible Study)
- What do these scriptures say about God?
- What do they say about people?
- How will I apply this to my life?
Look Ahead
What are you doing to grow strong spiritual roots? What will you do differently as you wait for an answer to your impossible “whatever” prayer?
Notes
You don’t need mountain moving faith in order to accomplish something in life. You merely have to have mustard seed faith to accomplish great things in life. Too many times we get discouraged because our faith is so small. We can’t imagine God doing impossible things in our lives when it’s all we can do to survive. The problem comes in those moments when it gets really tough and we quit living by faith. In those moments too many people turn to sin in order to cope with life. Instead they need to look back and see that God is in those every day, seemingly invisible acts of faith. They will add up. Little by little the mountain will move.
