Message Notes
Look Back
What did you experience by praying, “Jesus show me the way” as you put your shoes on this past week?
Look Up
Read Psalm 27:1-3
- What are some of the difficulties David describes in these verses? How easy is it for you to relate to David’s feelings of evil and darkness surrounding and closing in on him?
- Why is it significant that David calls God “my light”? What does this say about his relationship with God, and how should people today apply this in their lives?
- David ends by saying that he remains “confident” despite the darkness surrounding him. How has following God’s light increased your confidence in God’s provision?
Read John 12:44-46 and John 8:12
- What do these verses say about Jesus and his relationship with God? What specifically does Jesus say that people need to “believe” and why is this necessary?
Read In John 8:12, what does Jesus say that people need to “do” to not walk in darkness? How easy is it for you to recognize “darkness” in your life and turn to Jesus for direction?
- Try to put Jesus’ promise at the end of John 8:12 in your own words. How easy is it for you to share what this means to you personally with someone who feels like they are stuck in darkness?
Overall (Discovery Bible Study)
- What do these scriptures say about God?
- What do they say about people?
- How will I apply this to my life?
Look Ahead
When you turn a light on this week, pray, “Lord, shine light on my next step“.
Notes
When you are in the darkness, clarity is everything. You don’t need to see the whole path—just enough to keep from crashing. You don’t need a full blueprint—you just need enough light to see the next step. Jesus promised us that we won't have to walk in darkness because we have the light that leads to life. He did not offer a flashlight or spotlight, but a new way to see God as a loving Father who wants to walk with us and guide our steps daily. We don’t have to see the whole picture - we just need to walk toward the Light. God is not waiting for us to figure it out - He’s inviting us to “flip the switch”. Will you trust God in the darkness today?
