Week 3

Message Notes

Look Back

How successful were you at regularly stopping to recognize that Jesus came from heaven to earth to give us eternal life as you ate your “daily bread”.?

Look Up

Read John 14:25-27

  1. What gift does Jesus promise to give people who follow Him? Why is it important to remember that this is a “gift” and that it comes from Jesus?
  2. Why does Jesus say that this gift is something that the world cannot give? How should Jesus followers apply this truth in their daily lives?
  3. Based on these verses, what is the role of the Holy Spirit? How easy is it for you to accept and apply reminders from the Holy Spirit – what specifically helps you most?

Read John 15:1-8

  1. What 2 specific things does Jesus promise to those “remain in Him” in verses 4-5? How do these results work together to bring glory to God?
  2. What does Jesus say is the result of remaining apart from Him? Have you ever deliberately remained away from God and Jesus, and if so, what was the result?

Read Galatians 5:19-23

Read the 1st part of Galatians 5:19 in different translations. What is Paul warning us not to stay connected to or “remain in”? Why?

  1. Based on verse 22, how can followers of Jesus tell if they are staying connected and remaining in Jesus? What do you do if you find yourself bearing the wrong kind of fruit?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

Connect

with God by praying a short prayer every time you recharge your phone this week.

Notes

Do you get stressed out when you are running on empty? Too often, we feel this way because we try to take on more than we should. Taking responsibility for something that is not mine to own can equal spiritual theft. We think, and often are doing, a “good” or “righteous” thing when we actually have little or no control over the situation. As a result, we spend energy pursuing something that we can never achieve or maintain. In contrast, Jesus offers a free gift of His peace if we simply remain in His presence and follow the leading of His Spirit. When we do, His power produces the fruit that brings glory to God. Our job is to produce fruit; the way we do this is by consistently connecting and remaining in Christ.
