Week 4

Message Notes

Look Back

What did you do to fix your eyes on Jesus and the promises made in the Bible this week?

Look Up

Read 1 Peter 5:6-9 and Ephesians 6:10-13

  1. What does Paul repeatedly tell us readers to do in Ephesians 6:10-13? How does this compare with Peter’s teaching and how people typically engage in a battle?

Read Ephesians 6:12 gives us a different image of the enemy we face in overcoming our fears and anxiety. How does this imagery help you prepare for the spiritual battles you face?

  1. Try to put verse 13 into your own words. What does this verse say that people should expect and do? How can you apply it in your life today?

Read 2 Chronicles 20:5-9 & 15-24

  1. What do these verses have in common with the first two passages? How are they different?
  2. What did Jehoshaphat focus on in verses 5-9 and why? Why did he focus on this and what did this have to do with the fears that the people were facing at that moment?
  3. What did the people do to show that they truly believed God was with them and the battle was His? How easy is it for you to understand and apply this?
  4. Have you made a choice to worship God before going into a real or perceived “battle” in your life? What was the result?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

How do you respond when anxiety comes your way? What will you do to access the power of God through prayer and worship before rushing into battle?

Notes

Anxiety has no power over you if you do not feed it. The object of your anxiety does not have any real power, only influence, like the sound of a lion. Do you believe that God has power? Do you want to resist and stand firm? Prayer is one weapon. Worship is another. Before you go to battle with your next bout of anxiety, go to worship first.
