Look Back
How was your experience in setting aside an allotted time, to just be with God with no distractions or agenda?
Connect
Have you ever faced and overcame a lie that you were telling yourself about your value to God and others? What did you do?
Look Up
Read Romans 7:21-25 and 2 Corinthians 10:1-5
- Ultimately who is the battle between? Where does this battle take place? In what ways is this battle similar to a war between nations ?
- Where/ When have you experienced this battle for yourself?
- What does Paul offer as the solution at the end of both passages?
- What does it mean to take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ? How can someone practically do this?
Read Romans 12:1-2, Philippians 4:8-9
- In what ways do we conform to this world in our thoughts? What’s an example of where you have seen that take place in your life or the culture around?
- What does it mean to ”renew” our minds? How do we do that? What tends to be the result?
- How can Phil 4:8-9 help someone renew their mind? Have you ever been able to demolish a lie by using this approach?
Overall (Discovery Bible Study)
- What do these scriptures say about God?
- What do they say about people?
- How will I apply this to my life?
Look Ahead
The number one weapon to fight within the battlefield of the mind is God's Word. Truth will always trump a lie. We all believe lies about ourselves and how we defeat them is with what does God say. This week find one verse for you to combat the lie, memorize it and share it next week

Notes
There is always so much more happening than what we can see. There is a battle that is raging in the spiritual world. A battle that is being fought on the fields of the mind. We see the effects of this battle daily all around us. Even though the battle rages, God has already given us all we need to defeat the enemy, In John we are told the enemy is the father of lies (John 8:44), those lies get whispered in our ears and eventually become something we believe. The only way to combat that is with God's Truth. The weapons we have at our disposal is the scripture we store in our hearts. It is such a good practice to memorize scripture. Not just to store it in our memory but to have it in our hearts, so the second the devil sends a lie our way , God's truth is there ready and waiting. Leadership tip As we enter a new groups season, take some time to discuss some of the group dynamics and specifics. This is a great opportunity to have a conversation over where your group is going, what you hope to see happen, when you will break to serve together, when you will break to have some fun together, etc… Start fresh and start strong - it's going to be an awesome year.
