You Don't have to Be a Pro to Matter

Message Notes

Look Back

How did you give a few minutes last week to serve God and others? What are you going to do to continue to serve God and others in small ways in your daily life?

Look Up

Read Matthew 28:16-17

  1. What does verse 16 say about the disciples? Why did they travel together to the mountain and how does their example apply to people today?
  2. How does the disciples’ reaction in verse 17 surprise or challenge you? What does this verse say about what Jesus expects of those who choose to follow Him? How does this impact the way you follow Jesus?

Read Matthew 28:18-20

  1. Try to put what Jesus said in verse 18 into your own words. How would you explain what this means to you personally to someone who is considering following Jesus?
  2. What does it mean to “make disciples”? Do you think of yourself as a “disciple” of Jesus, and if so, what impact does this have on your life?
  3. What specifically did Jesus tell the 11 disciples to do in verse 20? What did He promise them and why is this significant to people today?

Read Acts 2:38-39

  1. Peter was an uneducated fisherman and one of the 11 disciples who met Jesus on the mountain. How do these verses show that Peter overcame his doubt and fear? What helps you or holds you back from sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with others?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

What steps will you take to understand Jesus better by reading the Bible daily? What can you do to help others overcome their doubts and feelings of inadequacy?

Notes

Jesus made a clear promise that applies to all people when He said - “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Our doubts do not disqualify us or separate us from Jesus, who sends His Holy Spirit to guide and comfort everyone who believes in and trusts Him. We are all called to “be” and “make” disciples - if God is with us, is that not enough?
