Message Notes
Look Back
What did you learn this week by focusing on what God has done for you and rejoicing that nothing is impossible for God?
Look Up
Read Matthew 1:18-23
- What was the reason for naming the child “Jesus”? Who was this message for and what does it mean to you today?
- What are some other things that people turn to in an attempt to save themself from their sins? How is turning to Jesus different?
- What did most of the people in Jesus' time think that “God is with us” would mean or look like? How is this different or the same as what people think “God is with us” means today?
- How can understanding and accepting that God is “in” us change our understanding of what God is “with” us really means?
- How have you been viewing God’s presence and role in your life this year? Have you been viewing Him as a judge, ally, defender or guide? How do you need to see and trust Him differently in the coming year?
Overall (Discovery Bible Study)
- What do these scriptures say about God?
- What do they say about people?
- How will I apply this to my life?
Look Ahead
What is the greatest gift you received from God this year? What will you do to share it with others around you? Group Note The gift of Jesus is clearly the greatest gift a person can receive. Still, many people misinterpret what this means and the power it brings. Encourage those around you to focus on understanding and learning how God is in us can bring hope and life change in all circumstances.
