Week 3

Message Notes

Look Back

What did you do this week to build a solid foundation by listening to Jesus’ teaching and obediently following it?

Look Up

Read Judges 6:1-10

  1. Describe the situation that the Israelites faced in your own words? Why do you think they were in this situation? How should people apply this today?
  2. How long did it take for God to answer the cries of the Israelites? Why do you think it took this long?
  3. What was God’s response to Israel in verses 8-10? Why do you think He focused on this rather than the problems they were facing? What does this tell us about God?

Read Judges 6:11-17 and Judges 7:16-22

  1. What does the angel say to Gideon, and how does he respond? How much “faith” in God does Gideon show in Judges 6:11-17? Have you ever felt this way?
  2. How does God answer Gideon’s concerns in verse 14? How does this apply to you personally and to people today?
  3. What do Gideon’s actions in Judges 7:16-22 reveal about his faith in God at this point? What was the result of him trusting in God’s strength and not his weakness?

Read 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

  1. Compare Jesus’ words to Paul to what God said to Gideon in Judges 6:14-1 How are they similar and different? What does this say about Jesus, and how should we apply it?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

Are you still using some "understandable excuses" to avoid being faithful to God? What does trusting God look like this week?

Notes

Do you ever feel too inadequate or small to be used by God? It’s easier to complain about what is wrong rather than to be involved in the solution. How often do we hesitate to trust God because we don't have enough - money, time, talent? How often do we miss God’s power because we focus on our weakness? Often, our weakness is the best opportunity for God to do something amazing. In what ways are you hesitating to see how God might use you now?
