Week 3

Message Notes

Look Back

How did you let your light shine before others so that they could see your good deeds and glorify God in heaven?

Look Up

Read 1 Kings 19:1-7

  1. According to verse 3, why did Elijah go to Beersheba? What was his goal in going there and who was his guide?
  2. Why do you think Elijah then went into the wilderness alone? What did he ask God for and what answer did he get?
  3. Why did Elijah leave the wilderness and who guided him to the mountain? What does this tell us about God?

Read 1 Kings 19:8-18 and Matthew 28:18-20

  1. Why do you think the Lord asked Elijah the same question twice? What do you think the Lord was trying to accomplish by doing this?
  2. What does Elijah’s response to the Lord’s questions tell us about him and his faith in the Lord? How is this relevant to you personally?
  3. What do you think the Lord was trying to accomplish in verses 11-12? What does this teach us about God?
  4. What stands out to you in God’s message to Elijah in verses 15-18? How does this compare to the guidance Jesus gives His disciples in Matthew 28:18-20?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

Be persistent in praying to give God permission to influence every emotion and every thought. Ask God to give you His Spirit so that you will have to have “ears to hear” as you search for God’s truth to direct your path.. Group Note Elijah’s experience is a great example that while God is not limited in His ability to communicate with us, His ways are not our ways. We need to be persistent in seeking guidance from God and pay attention to both the whispers and the shouts. God is there to guide us when we seek, listen and obey.
