Message Notes
Look Back
In what ways did you show love to people with “bad” reputations this week?
Look Up
Read John 8:1-11, Leviticus 20:10 and Deuteronomy 17:6-7 & 22:22
- Why did the Jewish religious leaders bring the woman to Jesus? What were they really trying to accomplish and what does this tell you about them?
- What do you think the woman was thinking and feeling during this event? Have you ever had similar thoughts or feelings? If so, how did you deal with them?
- Read the passages from Leviticus and Deuteronomy - what significant details did the Jewish leaders ignore or overlook? What does this teach us about the importance of studying God’s word in depth with other people in order to better understand God’s truth?
- How does this passage show that Jesus was “full of grace and truth”?
Read Ephesians 2:1-5
- Why do you think Paul was so direct in telling the Ephesians that they were “sinners”? What do you think he was trying to accomplish and how does it apply to people today?
- How does Paul’s attitude toward sin and death compare to those of the Jewish leaders in the John 8 passage? What is similar and what is different? Why do you think that there are differences?
- What new insights did you gain by looking at these passages together?
Overall (Discovery Bible Study)
- What do these scriptures say about God?
- What do they say about people?
- How will I apply this to my life?
Look Ahead
What will you do this week to become more full of truth and grace?
Notes
Judging others is easy when we fail to take the time to examine our own thoughts and actions. Looking at ourselves and recognizing our failures, mistakes and shortcomings is the first step in becoming more full of truth and grace. We need to avoid the mistake of thinking that we can be good enough and trust in the power of Jesus to save and change us.
