Read Matthew 2:1-8

1. What do you find interesting, surprising or confusing about the journey of the Magi to visit Jesus as a child? What do you learn about people from this?
2. What impact did Jesus being born “king of the Jews” have on the Magi and Herod? What does this mean for people today?
3. Do you typically think of Jesus primarily as a prophet, priest or king? What impact does this have on your relationship with God?

Read Philippians 2:6-11

1. How do these verses relate to the story of Jesus’ birth found in Matthew 2?
2. What additional insights into God and Jesus do you get from these verses? Which of these are most difficult for you to understand and accept? What keeps you from accepting the things that are difficult to understand?

Read Revelation 7:9-12

1. What does it mean to “adore” something or someone?
2. How should people today apply these verses in their daily lives?

Notes

Normally a prophet delivers a message from God. Jesus IS a message from God. Normally a priest gives a sacrifice for people to God. Jesus IS the sacrifice for people to God. Normally a king rules over his people. Jesus IS the king who died for his people. Jesus is not just a great prophet. Jesus is not just a great high priest. Jesus is not just a king. Jesus is the Prophet, Priest AND King.
