Week 3

Message Notes

Look Back

How did you bring honor to a relationship by focusing on the “speck in your eye”?

Look Up

Read Amos 3:3

  1. What does this verse say is needed for two people to walk together in a healthy relationship? What can people do to make sure they both agree on the direction?

Read Galatians 6:1-5 / In Galatians 6:1, what is the 1st thing we should do to help another person get back on the right path? What specific words are used, and how does this point people toward Christ?

Read Galatians 6:2 in different translations - what insight do you get into what it means to “share” each other's burdens? What burdens should we be careful not to share and why?

  1. What other instructions and warnings does Paul give in Galatians 6:3-5? Which of these do you need to focus on in your daily life right now?

Read Matthew 7:1-6 Note the similarities and differences between Jesus’ teaching in these verses and Paul’s teaching in Galatians

  1. How can this help people walk together in healthy relationships?

Read In Matthew 7:6, Jesus uses graphic imagery to warn people of the dangers of remaining in sinful, or toxic relationships. When have you had to break off a relationship with someone who continued to go in a destructive or sinful direction?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

In your most challenging relationship, are you both agreeing to honor God in how you treat each other? What do you need to do to be healthy and honorable?

Notes

God wants a personal relationship with each of us and desires to lead us on the right path. Our relationships and circumstances often draw us in other directions. The challenge is to honor our relationships with God's direction for our daily lives and examine our actions. The Bible teaches that when we feel a relationship is leading us to follow a path that leads us away from God, we should start by addressing the situation gently and humbly. Then we need to check our motivation and, if necessary, separate ourselves from the relationship. The key is to stay focused and follow Jesus at all times.
