Week 2

Message Notes

Look Back

How did trusting Jesus help you find freedom from the struggles and burdens you are facing?

Look Up

Read Luke 22:14-20

  1. According to Luke, what was Jesus’ attitude and approach to celebrating the Passover meal with His disciples? What specific words and phrases show how He was feeling?
  2. What words and phrases does Jesus repeat in this short passage? How are each of these significant to people today?
  3. Why do you think Jesus went into detail in explaining what the bread and drink represent? What do these represent to you personally?
  4. What do you think Jesus meant when He talks about a “new covenant”? What does this mean and why is this important to His overall message?

Read 1 Corinthians 11:23-28

  1. Paul’s letter was written to people who had not personally been with Jesus. What does he add in verse 26 and why do you think Paul felt it was important? How easy is it for you to “announce” or “retell” the message of Jesus’ death?
  2. What warning does Paul give people in verse 28? Why do you think he felt this was necessary and how does it apply to people today?
  3. How do these verses help you understand the message of hope Jesus gives just before He died? How can you share this with those in your life who are struggling to please God?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

Have you accepted that Jesus is the way to escape from brokenness? If so, who will you share this with this week?

Notes

Celebration of the Lord’s Supper is not about a cracker, drink or religious ritual. It is supposed to lead us to the realization that we are not capable of removing all the sin from our life. We should feel helpless – but not unloved. God loves us, even at our worst, so much that Jesus paid the price for our sin. The bottom line is that we need him. It’s time to examine ourselves.
