Notes
Matthew was one of Jesus’ closest disciples and at the end of his account of Jesus’ teachings, he records several significant promises and warnings of Jesus. Specifically, in Chapter 25, followers are reminded of the promise of an eternal future at Jesus’ side and the importance of caring for each other’s needs. Followers of Jesus are not required to meet the needs of everyone, but to be willing and open to set aside our personal interests and desires to help those who are truly in need. We are not called to do this out of guilt or obligation, but out of genuine concern for others.
