Look Up

  2. What is interesting or challenging in the way Paul describes his training?

Read Matthew 6:19-21

  1. What parallels do you see with 1 Corinthians 9:24-27?
  2. Why do you think people store up treasures on earth?
  3. How does storing up treasures in heaven work and what does it look like?

Read Matthew 6:31-34

  1. What do these verses say people tend to do?
  2. What do these verses say about God and what He wants us to do?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

Ask God “What amount of generosity would challenge me to trust you more this year?”

Notes

No one reaches the finish line of heaven by accident. Paul reminds us that we need to build our faith and spiritual muscles over time through training and discipline. Our commitment trains our mind and our generosity can train our heart. Our treasure focuses our heart, our heart determines our habits, our habits define our training and our training gets us to the finish line of heaven. The goal is to get to the finish line and receive the eternal prize of treasures in heaven. How are you exercising and developing your faith daily?
Overview

The series concludes by emphasizing that a vibrant faith requires intentional training rather than accidental effort. Using the analogy of Olympic athletes, spiritual discipline—specifically through the tool of generosity—is essential to guard against apathy and keep our hearts focused on eternity. The message ultimately challenges you to view financial commitment not as an obligation, but as a meaningful exercise of trust that builds your faith for the journey ahead.
