Asking for a Friend

Message Notes

Look Back

God's first invitation was for the people who felt farthest away. Who will you deliver an invitation to explore the teachings of Jesus with this year?

Look Up

Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17

  1. How easy is it for you to accept that “all scripture is inspired by God”? What specifically helps or hinders you in accepting this statement?
  2. What does verse 16 say are some of the ways that people can use scripture? Have you ever used scripture in one of these ways? If so, what was the situation and result?
  3. According to verse 17, how does God use scripture? How is this different or similar to how people use scripture?

Read Psalm 19:7-8

  1. How do people typically respond to “commands” and “decrees”? How does this differ from the way people respond to “instructions”? What does this say about people and our natural inclinations?
  2. What do these verses say people will gain or receive in these verses? Which of these benefits is most meaningful to you, or is something you need right now?

Read Psalm 19:9-11

  1. In verse 9, the author mentions the “fear”, or “reverence” of the Lord. Why does he use these terms and how does this connect with what is said in verses 7-8?
  2. What do these verses say about God and His concern for people? How have you personally found “rewards” in obeying God’s laws or warnings?

Overall (Discovery Bible Study)

  • What do these scriptures say about God?
  • What do they say about people?
  • How will I apply this to my life?

Look Ahead

What mess in your life needs wisdom, joy or hope? How will you open God’s word and let Him speak to you this week?

Notes

Christianity is not rooted in legend, it is rooted in real ink on real paper written by real people in real time. Some people may ask “Is the Bible true?” Others may ask “Is it trustworthy enough to shape my life?” Regardless of which question is asked, the answer can only be found through a thorough examination of what the Bible actually is and actually says. People are flawed, and are often tempted to wonder “did God really say?” The answer can only be found in God’s word. We all need to read the Bible if we hope to understand God, His purposes and His plan for our lives. If this raises questions, explore them, but do not ignore them.
Overview

The message explores the historical reliability of the Bible by comparing its vast manuscript evidence and connectivity to other ancient texts. It emphasizes that the Bible is a living library of 66 inspired books designed to provide wisdom and guidance for daily life. Ultimately, the message encourages you to move beyond curiosity and engage with the text personally to build a foundation of faith.
